The Future of…Everything

Forget game consoles, touchscreen devices, and computers; when the Cocoon by NAU is released, it willcomputers, technology, cocoon, games, software, information make all existing technology seem, well, kinda basic. The Cocoon is a digital experience that is both intuitive and holistic. Basically, it is a circular human-sized dome that puts users in a new digital dimension. View anything with a 360 degree screen, and control it with gestures. Equipped with motion sensing software inspired by Minority Report, it enables your body to be the interface. 10-Step Guide to Buying a Used Laptop That Works

Most wouldn’t flinch at the idea of buying a used car, but the thought of a used computer sends them squirming. The tech industry tries their hardest to keep it that way: they advertise new products in such a way to render the previous models perceptually obsolete; they block even the simplest hardware upgrades; and they sell bottom-of-the-line models that simply break within a couple years.

This shouldn’t scare you away from a used computer purchase, but know that they are imperfect machines; some research, determination, and basic knowledge is required. MORE >>>

Take breaks during work

By Steve

I take regular breaks during work. I work for twenty minutes, then break for five minutes. On a regular day, this works well. But there are times when this is not going to work out. Like in meetings, conferences or a deadline. Well, some deadlines. For the most part, it works well.

The benefits of doing this is that I have no wrist problems. Constant typing can create that problem. My eyes are not tired, and I feel rested for the whole day. I started this way back before programs could be set-up on the computer to regulate your work time.

Here are two programs for you to try if you feel that you should regulate your work time. ChronoControl locks your computer at the preset rest time, Instant Boss gives a message - with the option to take a break or continue working. I am more inclined to the second. I am not keen on programs that lock my computer.

Do try them if you want a rest reminder during work.

Identity Theft

By Steve

Just before we left for Ghana, I received some information from my bank. They had sent me some brochures regarding identity theft, and had included forms for me to complete in case I wanted to purchase identity theft protection.

Question: Aren't Banks supposed to portect us from such theft anyway?
