The Toilet Paper Museum

If I look hard enough on the internet, I find stuff like The Toilet Paper Museum. As soon as I saw it, I said "Why?" Then I had a look at the gallery of vintage toilet paper. Alright, if you look at the designs of the wrappings, I can see why the curator of this museum started this collection.

Guttural Moans

Ooof! Wham! Bam! Aaaarrrghh! Ow! Nyaaagh!

What do these words represent? They are guttural moans from comic books. When Superman hits a bad guy, a balloon sprouts from the bad guy's mouth with the word Ooof! Or if the Joker's henchmen takes a shot at Batman, look for Bam! These words made comic books fun. The Batman TV series, with Adam West, had fun with the balloon guttural words as well.

Here is a site that collects guttural words from the comics. Called The Unh! Project, it has a nice collection of moans and groans. I cannot tell if the site is still active, but have fun anyway. Yippee-kiiaay!

Whiten Your Teeth the Natural Way

teeth, white, strawberries, malic acid, paste, discolorationTooth whitening is all the rage among those who value their looks. An attractive smile is like a neon sign announcing a youthful, pleasant and charming personality. It is also the key that opens up many doors. Yellowed, stained teeth can spoil that important first impression, and even turn people off. Our habits can also influence the color of our teeth. Tobacco use can and does change the color of our teeth. In such cases, tooth whitening reverses the discoloration, restoring a dazzling smile. Sometimes, it is necessary to have tooth whitening done for health reasons. The discoloration may cause dental deterioration and the dentist therefore removes it on preventative grounds.

These whitening procedures can cost quite a bit of cash sometimes. So, why not save cash and try nature's free and easy method? Use strawberries. Yes, I said strawberries. The malic acid in them can remove surface discoloration. Interested? Check out Health for the more on nature's whitening method.

Firefox: Close Tab Button

Lately, I have had this bad habit of closing tabs accidentally when in Firefox. Be it the active tab or another tab, I seem to do it on a consistent basis. I never had this problem in IE. I wonder if Firefox makes this easy to do. Regardless, my friend, the Firefox nut, gave me an easy solution to my problem. He said to have the close tab button at the end of the Tab Bar. In this way, if I am moving my mouse around, I will not close any tab in error. Problem solved. Here is how you do it.

1) Type about:config in the address bar. Enter.

2) In the filter field type browser.tabs.closeButtons.

3) Double click the entry and change the default setting of 1 to 3. Now, the close button will be at the end of the tab bar.

0 will set the close button on the active tab,1 will set the close button on all tabs, 2 will not display the close button (use the keyboard to close tabs) and 3 will set a close button at the end of the tab bar.

Close the browser after you finish the set-up. Open again and, if you open multiple tabs, you will see the close button at the end of the tab bar.

Do you know where to get your favourite beer in New York?

I love New York. I go there more than I do any city in this world. If I had the cash, I would be living in New York. I love the crowds, the city, the smells, the traffic, the people - I love everything about New York. Even the unfriendly people. What I love most about New York is its pubs. Speaking of pubs ...

How to Soften Brown Sugar Clumps

Ever opened your jar or container of brown sugar and all you see are large clumps. It can be a bummer especially when those clumps are as large than your cup and you’d probably need a jackhammer to loosen them up to the grains that you’d expect from, well, sugar.

A quick fix? Place the sugar in a microwavable container and place a slice of bread in the container on the sugar. Seal the container tightly and microwave for 15 seconds. The moisture from the bread will raise the pressure in the container and the steam will soften the sugar and you can now easily work on the clumps. A half an apple can also work as substitute for sliced bread.

I love dark, twisted tales. Scarier the better. I may not sleep for days, but I love the tingles and nail biting moments. McFarlane's Monster action figures took a ... twisted look at some fairy tales. Looking at some of them gave me the tingles.

Activate

What is ACTIVATE?
A fresh, new functional drink, featuring interactive packaging that’s never existed before.

How does it work?
ACTIVATE’s vitamins and herbs are stored as powder in a chamber inside the cap. When you twist the cap clockwise, a small plastic blade cuts the seal in the chamber. Simultaneously, a small armature opens the chamber allowing the ingredients to drop into the water below.

Why keep the ingredients separate in the cap?
Vitamins and other healthful ingredients deteriorate sitting in water. Storing the ingredients separate inside the cap keeps them fresh until the moment they’re released, for maximum potency.

High roller sushi

I like sushi the way most people seem to like it in that it's a fun dinner meal. Fun sticks to eat with and green hot stuff and little packets of soy sauce. E, my cuz and I go out for sushi once a week. If you are eating out there are two styles of sushi restaurant the ones where you sit at a table or counter and order your food from the menu, or the more modern style where diners are seated around a conveyor belt and pick from the dishes that pass by. In the traditional order at table restaurant you may be provided with a menu that is illustrated and this will help you learn the names of the various kinds of sushi and you will see what you are ordering. Of course, when seated at the conveyor belt of sushi train you get to see exactly what there is so its much easier, although at first you may not recognize some of the more unusual types of fish and seafood that are used.

But I have yet to see the $1,000 sushi roll come down the conveyor belt.

It's just a Plant

It's Just a Plant is an illustrated children's book about marijuana. It follows the journey of a young girl as she learns about the plant from a diverse cast of characters including her parents, a local farmer, a doctor, and a police officer.

Marijuana is around kids! Some children are trying their first "hit" of marijuana at ten and eleven years old, and awareness of the plant begins even earlier for many (whether through its heavy presence in pop culture or by simply opening their parent's door during "bedtime"). We think there is a way to safely educate children about drugs by satisfying their curiosity but without piquing their curiosity to try them.

Ross MacDonald - Illustrator

Illustration, comics, children’s book, typography and movie props — no one person could possibly have his finger in all those pies at once could he? Probably not unless that person is Ross MacDonald. Not only is he a talented illustrator, but he’s also a fan of good old-fashioned letterpress typography and actually prints and binds some of his movie props using traditional methods. Beautiful stuff all around.

Thirteen O'Clock

This is the story of a very normal girl on an almost normal night in a fairly normal house. Normal, that is, except for a not-so-normal clock whose numbers count not twelve but a spooky thirteen. James Stimson's extraordinary book about the antics of a perky prankster in pajamas is a feast of words and pictures. Filled with sly wordplay, atmospheric illustrations, and a baker's dozen of spritely, spooky, spunky characters, it reminds readers that more fun than fright can be had from things that go bump, bong, groan, clatter, squeak, and gong in the night.

Eight-legged freaks

I hate spiders. I know when one is about the house. I can hear them move on their eight legs, you see. I can hear their legs clicking on the floor as they move about the house, looking for a place to spin their web. Even in the dark, I can see the creepy crawlies - moving on the floor. Many is a time when I have sprung out of bed, grabbed a magazine and hit the floor. Turned on the light, and Bravo! Bastard - dead on the floor. And E gives me a very deadly look, scarier than a spider's. I instinctively know when a spider is looking at me. I look down and there it is, looking at me with its beady little eyes, calculating how it is going to sink its fangs in me and drink me dry. But I am quick. I always am. I slowly move (quick did I say?) and grab a magazine and ... WHAM! The sucker is dead. Mushed, mashed, gooey, dead.

Then there are the bigger ones, and E looks after those for me. She will fetch the walking stick and ... WHAM! Dead again. This scene from Annie Hall illustrates E and I when a spider attacks. E is Woody Allen and I am Diane Keaton. Laugh it up, go ahead.

It is starting to get warm here. Summer approaches and all the eight-legged freaks will be out for me. Bastards! Time to hit Home Depot and stock up on insect repellants, and the used book store for my supply of spider killers - magazines.

Hey, fools! I am waiting. Try and get me.
