The Delta Force (1986)

Sleep tight, sucker.

A 707 aircraft jetliner on its way from Athens to Rome and then to New York City is hijacked by Lebanese terrorists. The terrorists demand that the pilot take them to Beirut. What the terrorists don't realize is that an elite team of commandoes has been called into service to eliminate all terrorists on the jetliner and who's involved in the hijacking and try to retake the plane before the terrorists kill all the hostages.

The Movie

The Delta Force is an action movie trying to be substantial. And it failed badly. I have to say I liked it when I first saw it. After several viewings, I found the movie to be cartoonish. There is no substance at all. It is a revenge movie, geared to inspire our nationalistic feelings. It failed at that too. The second time I saw it, I was howling with laughter through the entire movie. Why I liked it the first time ... a mystery. Lee Marvin, the Delta Force chief, and Robert Forster, the terrorist leader, give good performances. Chuck Norris is Chuck Norris. Wooden and uninteresting. Oops! I suppose I will have to expect a visit from Norris for saying this. Skip this awful movie.

The Soundtrack

Composed by Alan Silvestri

Released: 16th June 2008

Label: Intrada Records

The soundtrack existed as a bootleg until this year. Intrada Records released a legitimate CD of the soundtrack in June. Alan Silvestri composed this score early in his career. So, he can be forgiven this terrible score. Like the movie, it is cheesy to the max, with drum beats, and disco stylings. The Main Title has merit, the rest are a miss. Silvestri has gone on to compose much better scores like Forrest Gump, Predator and The Polar Express. Also, I would have thought Intrada would have released a much better score. But to their credit, they are doing a fantastic job of catering to everyone's taste that I will not complain about this. But I must say that The Delta Force soundtrack is not recommended.
